The American colonists became fed up with their English king. They were tired of his taxes, unfair rules, and occasional temper tantrums. So the thirteen colonies fought England for their freedom. On July 4, 1776, they formed their own country--the United States of America. The people decided to elect a president that was honest, fair, trustworthy and brave. That someone was George Washington.
