Description
The #1 New York Times bestselling Sweet Potato Queens franchise presents the very first Sweet Potato Queens novel as the Sweet Potato Queen herself narrates her coming-of-"queen" story in hilarious fashion. As high-school students in Jackson, Mississippi, Jill and her friends couldn't be less popular. Mary Bennett, a beautiful and wealthy young woman, has a bad reputation, and is poorly parented by her father. Gerald, who is Jewish and gay, is saddled with a Southern double-whammy, while Erika, a Minnesota native, is shunned because she talks like a Yankee. Finally, there is Jill, who is teased because of her height. When a beautiful girl named Tammy comes to the school, the friends include her in their group. In the march toward adulthood, each future Sweet Potato Queen falls out of step and has to find their way in the world. Jill gradually discovers her Queenly self and by the end of the novel, all of the friends reunite to march together in the Sweet Potato Queens Saint Paddy's Day Parade.
