Description
Anybody who has read even one of the hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles about Kansas native Elizabeth "Grandma" Layton knows that she cured her own decades-long depression with blind contour drawing. Tantalizing tidbits of her life and struggles have been told on television shows, public radio, and art galleries across the nation since her first (and only) art class in 1977. However, since it is not possible for a short set of words to explain the myriad facets of this amazingly talented woman, many people have asked for details of the rest of her story. Hence - this book on her life. Readers of this biography/memoir will experience emotions ranging from tragedy to joy, love to hate, and desperation to fulfillment. By the final chapter they will know the "hows and whys" that led to Elizabeth's lengthy depression, as well as the vast influences that shaped her intelligent and rebellious spirit in such a way that she was able to pull herself out of that downward spiral for good, and encourage thousands of hapless souls to do the same.
