[synopsis] => In 1880 Montana, Fred Dawson and Doc Flanders are sent to mediate a range war between cattlemen and sheepmen. Posing as medicine showmen, they get embroiled in the conflict. As Fred tries to reconcile the two factions, he's wrongly accused of a crime, leading to a tense climax.

The 1939 United States Crime Western film "In Old Montana" delves into the conflicts between cattlemen and sheepmen, set against the backdrop of Montana in 1880. The film captures the essence of the Western genre, which was at its zenith during this period.

Set in 1880s Montana, the film follows Fred and Doc, who are dispatched to settle a range war between cattlemen and sheepmen. Disguising themselves as members of a medicine show, they quickly become part of the ongoing feud. Fred's efforts to unite the two warring factions take a turn for the worse when Joe Allison is shot, and Fred is wrongfully blamed for the act. With Fred imprisoned and a lynch mob approaching, Doc devises a plan to rescue his friend and uncover the real culprits behind the escalating violence.

The film features several songs performed by Fred Scott, including "In Old Montana", "I'm Headin' for the Home Corral", "Ridin' Down the Trail" and "The West Is in My Soul". The film was shot at Corriganville Movie Ranch, a Western-themed film location in Simi Valley, California.
